Bumble India Partners With Safetipin In Efforts To Make Urban Spaces Safer For Women

This Diwali, Bumble India, the will prioritize creating safe urban spaces for women across the country – in collaboration with the online platform, Safetipin. On October 22, Bumble plans to raise up to USD 15,000 on behalf of every match made across their three modes – Bizz, Date or BFF – to contribute to Safetipin’s multiple safety initiatives for women. The new initiative aims to continue Bumble’s goal to empower women by paying it forward and giving women the opportunity to feel safe in their daily lives.

Priti Joshi, Vice President Strategy at Bumble, says, “Our goal has always been to use technology to create an inclusive and empowering experience for women to connect and be themselves. There was no better time than this festive season, to work with the amazing team at SafetiPin to help identify a secure & empowered environment for Bumble users in real life.

Founded by Kalpana Viswanath, Safetipin began as an initiative to protect women in urban spaces by crowdsourcing data collection. The app allows the user to check the safety of a location, calculated by a “safety audit”, a measure of parameters including lighting, openness, visibility or “eyes on the street,” presence of security, the state of a walking path, as well as the presence of people and specifically women, on the streets. The app has other salient features which allow for a friend or family member to track your location, proving beneficial for women travelling alone at odd hours. Safetipin also works to make cities safer by providing this data to governments so that they can improve public spaces.
