Everyone is talking about AI’s impact on search, but what does the traffic actually look like? Our new AdLift research report, “ChatGPT Traffic: It’s Small, But It Sticks” , moves beyond speculation and analyzes real-world LLM user data across six major sectors.
The findings are clear and a little counterintuitive:
- It’s Not a Flood: ChatGPT is not a replacement for Google. In every sector we checked, it sends under 4 percent of the traffic volume from Google Organic.
- It’s a Quality Signal: While the volume is low, the intent is high. In 5 out of 6 sectors, visitors arriving from ChatGPT spend significantly more time on site than visitors from Google.
This report reveals that users clicking from ChatGPT are in a “solve-my-problem” mindset and are looking to finish a task (Page 13). They aren’t just browsing; they’re ready to engage.
